Praia da Ilha de Tavira

Praia da Ilha de Tavira is one of the defining beach experiences of the eastern Algarve, located at the eastern end of Ilha de Tavira, close to Barra do Cochico and directly opposite the city of Tavira. Set within the wider Ria Formosa landscape, it combines a long sandy Atlantic-facing shore with the protected lagoon, saltmarsh and saltpan scenery that gives this part of the Algarve its distinctive character. Access is part of the experience. The journey towards Quatro Águas also passes through a strong local landscape of the River Gilão, traditional fishing activity and saltpans used by wading birds.
